Forest Freaks began before the label did.

In Klaipėda, P.Tale and C.Monster were throwing parties and playing DJ sets under the name Forest Freqs — as in frequency. Enough people heard it as “freaks” that the crew eventually stopped correcting them and changed the spelling. The misreading became the name.

The label followed in 2008. Dohm and Re-Horakhty joined, then CTO Gram and GuRook, and a party crew turned into a catalogue.

The first release came in November 2009. Under The Moss was compiled from Lithuanian artists and put out through Ektoplazm — at the time the place where people went to download good psychedelic music for free, and a genuinely large audience. It seemed like the right way to introduce what was happening in Lithuania to people who would never otherwise hear it. A handful of CD copies were pressed. The release party in Klaipėda was put together with the Transformers crew.

Under The Moss has continued as a series ever since, and the releases have stayed free.

Since then the artists on this label have played across most of Europe — Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, North Macedonia, Malta, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia and the UK — as well as India, Lebanon, Russia, the United States and Canada.

Our Mission

Forest Freaks aims to share its Lithuanian-style psytrance with music lovers around the world, and to serve as a platform for artists to continue to learn production, release their music, play at parties and festivals, help upcoming artists, travel, and jam with each other.
